Coco coir chips are used to increase the oxygen content and drainage of your growing medium. Chips are made directly from coconut husk that is chipped into various sizes. Coco Chips are often used in custom blends of coir "pith" coir fiber and chips. They are quite popular with orchid growers because they retain moisture but not too much! Large scale hydroponic growers often use a chip blend of coir for crops such as peppers, tomato, and various berry crops. They can feed nutrients to the plants as often as needed without having to worry about over saturation. Roots easily penetrate through chip blends as there is very little compaction.
